This project aimed to encourage audiences (17+) to download the Australian Museum’s Christmas Beetle Tracker app. Using expert insights from Dr Chris Reid, I created a motion piece that metaphorically links human conception and birth to the beetle’s lifecycle. Since beetles spend over two years underground and live only two weeks above, I focused the animation on the buildup, with just seconds representing their short life. Through planning, feedback, and iteration, the concept evolved significantly. I used Adobe After Effects, exploring new 2D animation techniques like rotoscoping and advanced keyframing, resulting in a piece I’m proud of both visually and conceptually.
